Electric cars are gaining popularity, but it’s still far from common, but two B.C. residents are taking their electric vehicle, a Tesla Model X, across the country in the hopes their trip will inspire others to switch to electric cars.
The couple left Victoria’s Mile Zero Saturday morning, beginning their 10,000 kilometre trip to St. John’s, Newfoundland.
This is the first time anyone has attempted the journey in a 100 per cent electric vehicle.
The Tesla Model X will be towing a camping trailer. The couple said they want to show that long distance travel and even camping is possible in an electric car.
They plan on travelling on average 300 kilometres a day, charging their car overnight and during lunch.
The camper even has solar panels and lithium batteries should the couple get stranded and need an extra power boost.
