Dozens of boys and girls gathered on a soccer pitch in Nanaimo Sunday to work on their skills and help out a very good cause at the same time.

Rush Soccer of Nanaimo joined other clubs across the country today by putting on a two-hour long training session for youngsters, but it was also a cancer fundraiser.

Every $10 registration fee was donated to childhood cancer research and it all has extra meaning for the family of 14-year-old Emma Reid of Nanaimo who was recently diagnosed with a complex brain tumour.

Her friends at Nanaimo Christian School will be shaving their heads on Wednesday to raise awareness and money for the family.

Friends are hoping to raise over $20,000 to help the family with expenses.

They’ve also set up a Go Fund Me page.
