WATCH: You may have seen a man dressed as a superhero riding a Segway on the TransCanada Highway. Monica Martinez has his story.
He’s an unusual sight along the highway, getting noticed as much for his costume as his transportation of choice, and like most superheroes – this one is on a mission.
“We want to make the Segway legal here, I have these gifts from god and I can do something about this,” said Danny Halmo.
Halmo may be dressed as Deadpool, but he’s got his own heroic name – Danny “the Hurricane” Halmo.
And the 57 year old just nabbed a world title.
“We just completed the first ever Guinness World Record for longest journey on a Segway,” he said.
He started his journey October 2nd on Salt Spring Island, then going to Campbell River and riding down to Victoria.
The segway goes about 17km/hour, and after 12 days he logged 567 km.
The costume? Well, that just adds to all the fun.
“The Guinness World loves crazy pictures. It’s full of crazy people, no offence or nothing, I’m one of them,” he said laughing.
Breaking records isn’t anything new for the Windsor native. He already owns one Guinness World title for the longest e-bike ride, where he rode from Vancouver to Halifax.
Now his electric transportation of choice is the Segway.
“This vehicle can be used responsibly and sensibly and there is no reason they can’t be used on bike lanes.”
Halmo moved to Langley in 2008, after losing his house in the 2008 economic collapse. Coming to B.C. was his way of starting fresh.
“I came out here in search of a wife and a life and I’m still searching for one of them.”
He’s not in it for the money, or the fame, like most superheroes he’s saving the world, his own way.
