Conservation officers have set up traps to get rid of what are believed to be the first grizzly bears ever seen on Cormorant Island, off the northeast coast of Vancouver Island.
An official with the Village of Alert Bay said it was very exciting to have the two bears arrive on the small island on Friday, but it isn’t a safe place for them and they have to go.
Conservation officials believe the bears are two- to three-year-old brothers from the central coast that were likely forced westward by a dominant male.
The bears will be relocated to a safe place on B.C.’s central coast if they are caught
