WATCH: It is a huge night for the Victoria Royals who need to win tonight’s game against Kelowna to continue to the Western Conference finals. Monica Martinez reports.

The Todd family swag bag has all the game necessities, jerseys for each member of the family (there are four generations of them that go to the games), and homemade scarves.

“My mother makes these,” said Reg Todd Jr.

She made them for the family, and then kept making them. Now there are 30 out there.

“There’s players who’s girlfriends and billet parents have them. Joe Hickett’s mom has one, and some of the arena staff have them,” he said.

The Todd family has been Royal blue since the beginning.

“It’s great hockey, it’s really great hockey,” said Vicky Todd.

“And this has been the most exciting year yet. These young lads have really brought it on this year. Every game has been an edge of your seat game,” said Reg Todd Jr.

But it was Reg Todd Sr who started the Royal blue family tradition, a man who hardly needs a jersey to show off his swagger.

“I went to one game and I was hooked. It’s better hockey than we’ve ever had,” he said after riding in on his motorcycle.

The stakes tonight are huge.  The last time a Victoria WHL team made it this far was 35 years ago when the Cougars took home the Championship in 1981.

“Tonight’s game is going to be just absolutely wonderful. I just hope I don’t have a heart attack before it’s all over, cause I almost had one the other night,” said Reg Todd Sr.

But being a Royals’ fan is not just about the hockey, it’s about the hockey community.

“It’s almost like the family we have enormous amount of friends with other ticket holders and people that go a lot,” said Todd Jr.

Friends like Shane Mackie who works in sales by day, but on game nights  he is a “super huge Royals fan.”

“Tonight I’m going to be wearing my jersey, have my hat on and going to be waving my flag non stop tonight and be very loud,” said Mackie.

Victoria’s mayor is also in on the fun, making a friendly bet over Twitter with Kelowna’s mayor.

“On twitter I said I’m betting on our Royals what will you wager and he wagered a bottle of Kelowna wine and I came back with a six-pack with one of our fine local brews,” said Mayor Lisa Helps.

It’s a big night for the more than 7,000 fans who’s hearts will be bleeding blue.
