WATCH: More than 9,000 people will walk and run the TC10K this Sunday.
Registration lineups and t-shirt pickups, there’s a full spectrum of folks running at this year’s TC 10k.
Runners like Bala Balachamdram have only missed one of the event’s 27 years.
“I enjoy the scenery and participation and great feeling at the finish line,” he said.
Then there’s first timers like Renate Raudaschl who “hates running,” but she’s trying it out to see if she’ll change her mind about the sport.
When asked how she’s liking it so far, she said she likes the company but the running – “not that much.”
Sunday morning, the crowd will cheer on more than 9,000 people.
The event usually draws 11 or 12 thousand participants, but organizers say bigger is not always better.
“We want to make sure it’s a safe and well run event and give runners a quality experience,” said organizer Cathy Noel.
The event is as much a festival as it is a race, a way to branch out to new runners and keep regulars coming back.
“we have different entertainment, local bands, finish line food, and events for kids.”
And now more than ever, there are a lot of different running events to choose from.
“There is a lot of competition for different events – spartan, zombie, keg beer runs. There is something for everybody,” said sponsor Rob Reid of FrontRunners.
What the TC 10k does is give people the marathon experience without actually having to run a marathon.
“They will never do 42.2 km. This is their marathon,” Noel said.
It’s a huge local event, giving runners, walkers and supporters a lot to cheer for.
