You never know what you’ll find, apparently, at the top of a huge hydro pole.
A driver spotted a bear cub way up on top of a 50 foot/15 metre high power pole on Highway 19 near Port Hardy this past Saturday.
Complicating matters for crews contemplating a rescue was the 25,000 volt power line also at the top of the pole.
Technicians on-site had B.C. Hydro’s control centre “de-energize” the line and then used a long pole to coax the cub to climb down to safety.
Power was off for about 450 Port Hardy customers for about 10 minutes.
The cub ran unharmed into the nearby bushes.
